Scholarship Program

The purpose of the Light Up Learning Scholarship Program is to provide an avenue for every child in need to receive the eye care necessary to shine bright, personally and academically.

What we do…

  • EQUIP schools, daycare centers and pediatric clinics to properly administer vision screenings and identify children in need of eye care and glasses.
  • PROVIDE scholarships to children in financial need to receive proper eye care and glasses.
  • EMPOWER optometrists and optometry practices across the country to serve the children of their communities by providing eye care and glasses to scholarship children.

How it works!

  • First, a need for eye care treatment is identified. This can be the result of a failed vision screening in the office of a pediatrician, optometrist, or school nurse. Or, vision issues could be brought to attention of an educator or counselor.
  • Next, the parent/guardian or, with verbal or written consent, the school nurse or counselor, will apply on behalf of the child for a Light Up Learning Scholarship.
  • After the application is submitted, the application is evaluated for approval. We ensure a very quick turnaround on approvals.
  • Finally, the application decision is made and if approved, we will begin the formal award process.

How can someone apply?

Applications can be submitted by…

  • Parents/guardians, who can submit the application directly to us! This is the most effective way to ensure a child receives the eye care that they need.
  • Counselors and school nurses can apply on behalf of a student if they obtain verbal or written consent from the parent/guardian.

Our Participating Providers for light up learning

Each practice that participates in our program honors a select number of scholarship certificates awarded to children attending schools within their local community. These scholarships ensure that children in need receive the essential eye care and glasses necessary for their success in school. Our providers play a vital role in the program, serving as the “hands and feet” that bring our mission to life.

We’re bringing the brightness of vision into children’s lives

“One of our first scholarship patients was a child who was nearsighted and had gone years without correction. He would only focus on what he was holding in his hands and tuned out the rest of his surroundings. Seeing him put his prescription on and actually engage with his parent across the room was one of the most rewarding things I’ve witnessed in a while. This program expanded his world and I’m so happy for him!”

“What a beautiful program the Light Up Learning scholarship is! This year the special services we have traditionally been able to provide for students were significantly limited, but because of Light Up Learning we were able to allow even more access to vision care for families than ever. One of our students was severely nearsighted and was awarded a scholarship. As a result, is able to participate in learning with new eyes and better understanding of the material. We could not be more thankful to partner with Light Up Learning to enhance our students’ ability to learn at school!”
